Current Opportunities

Math Mentorship Program

The Math Outreach Office is looking for graduate students who are interested in becoming mentors for the Math Mentorship Program from January to May 2020. The Math Mentorship Program aims to foster collaboration between outstanding high school students and current graduate students, post-doctoral fellows and faculty members in the department.

You will provide guidance for your mentee(s) in the process of completing a mini math research project. You will meet about once or twice per month at the downtown campus on a schedule that fits both of you. There will be a welcome reception of all participants in late January and a closing reception in late May.

If you are interested in being a mentor, please sign up here: https://forms.gle/kya9yL9NTdnBNP1E7.

Calling All COMC Volunteer Markers!

What is the COMC?

The Canadian Open Mathematics Challenge is Canada’s premier math contest, run by the Canadian Mathematical Society. The top 50 scorers will be invited to write the Canadian Math Olympiad, which will inform the selection of Canada’s International Math Olympiad Team.

What do volunteers get out of this?

Work towards a co-curricular record entry. Experience grading math tests. Experience with Crowdmark software, now frequently used to manage tests for large courses.

What’s the timeframe?

Scanning can start as soon as we have volunteers. All contests must be fully marked and processed by Dec 1.
